First Daybreak Haiku

In the summer of 2007, the artist Isak Eldh and the poet Kennet Klemets asked me to take part in a performance on the big outdoor stage at Götaplatsen in Göteborg during the Culture Festival. Isak and Kennet had worked together several times before, Isak with sound performance and Kennet with poem reading. Now they wanted me to join them with videos and they also invited Ysella Almquist to play the harp and Lisa Brusewitz to play the electric guitar.
I magnified some of Kennet’s poem texts and filmed them in various ways, approaching them as if they were pictures rather than texts. Alongside of this, I read them and then tried to give shape to something of the sensation the reading evoke. In the performance I mixed these films with pictures of Kennet’s mouth when the text comes out from it and pictures of the strings of Ysellas harp where the sounds are created. Isak mixed sounds of his own with the sounds of Kennet’s reading and those of harp and guitar music to a new sound landscape. The texts that Kennet read were Skuggraderna (The Shadow Rows), Lux, First Daybreak Haiku and Malmö
